Psychoeducational and Neuropsychological Assessments

These assessments evaluate the individual's cognitive abilities, academic performance, impact of medical conditions, and related learning needs.

A psychoeducational assessment focuses on identifying learning strengths, giftedness, and learning difficulties.

A neuropsychological assessment offers a more in-depth understanding of how the brain affects learning, attention, memory, and executive functioning. It is typically recommended when an individual has a complex challenges that affect multiple areas, such as learning, behaviour, and daily functioning.

Not all situations require a neuropsychological assessment. Depending on the presenting concerns and the clinician’s scope of practice, a psychoeducational assessment may be sufficient to address the needs.

Psychodiagnostic Assessment

This assessment is used to identify and diagnose mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and behavioural disorders. It is based on interviews with the patient, their spouse/partner, and often includes standardized questionnaires.

This assessment does not include cognitive or academic testing and is focused on emotional, behavioural, and psychological functioning. The results help clarify clinical needs and guide appropriate treatment planning.
