Get to know me

Hello!
I am Sydney Chasty (pronounced chay-stee). My pronouns are she/her. I am a registered Behaviour Analyst in Ontario, and a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA), offering services to the Ottawa-Gatineau region in English. My practice focuses on evidence-based behavioural interventions based on the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). My approach is “diagnostic-agnostic”, meaning that I strive to work with individuals to develop goals and treatment plans that explore the “function” of their behaviour (e.g., the “why” to the behaviour), rather than attempt to address behaviours that are “associated” with any diagnosis the individual may have. I am committed to practicing client-centred, neuro-affirming, trauma-informed, inclusive care.
Professional Background
Sydney has been supporting clients with complex neurodevelopmental needs since 2015. Her clinical experience has spanned multiple settings, including centres, homes, schools, and community settings. Sydney has provided ABA therapy in multiple communities across Ontario, and has worked with individuals from all walks of life and their support network. Through her education in Applied Disability Studies through Brock University, as well as her experience in various ABA settings, Sydney developed a keen interest in client advocacy and providing holistic, client-centred care, striving to provide ABA therapy in a way that lifts the client up, rather than train individuals to “fit in” with societal expectations and norms.
Sydney is a member of several organizations, including the Association for Behaviour Analysis International (ABAI) since 2021, and the Ontario Association for Behaviour Analysis (ONTABA) since 2018. She has extensive experience providing individual direct therapy, mediator-model based interventions, and consultations across public and private settings.
Sydney brings over a decade of experience and a belief that support should set individuals up for success, making individualized care of the utmost importance. Her trauma-informed, assent-focused approach focuses on client-centred care, creating meaningful goals by working closely with the client and their caregivers.

On a personal Note
Who am I?
I am originally from a small community outside of Dundas, Ontario. I moved to the Ottawa region in 2011 to pursue my post-secondary studies in psychology and behaviour science, where I was enchanted by the amount of green space within a city. After briefly moving back to my hometown to complete my Master’s degree from Brock University from 2017-2019, I felt compelled to return to the area that had become my home. As an avid runner and a general outdoorsy person, Ottawa-Gatineau is a haven of pathways and trails.
As a queer, neurodivergent woman, I have a strong passion for helping others navigate the barriers society presents by building skills that will increase their quality of life while maintaining who they are as a person. I strongly believe that “independence” looks different for everyone, and thus, I use a combination of evidence-based strategies and a holistic perspective to ensure that each goal incorporates the client’s strengths, learning style, and desires for how they envision their life.
I strive to create a safe space for clients to engage in skill building and explore what motivates them, build an understanding of why they engage in certain behaviours, and work together to achieve their goals.
